Michael Wright's Piano Studio

Lessons fall into four categories: piano lessons, advanced theory lessons, advanced music history lessons, and composition lessons. Lessons are available at my studio at Uptown School of Music, in person at your home or online over Zoom.

Piano lessons are available to students of all ages at all levels of ability, with an interest in learning how to play piano. Studies can be serious with the expectation of conservatory examinations, music festival competitions and performance recitals, or can be just for fun. Lessons are catered toward the learning styles of the student and move at the student's pace. Students can expect exploration of classical music along with jazz, blues, pop and other styles.

Advanced theory lessons are available for students looking at preparation for Grade 9, 10 and ARCT Harmony and Counterpoint examinations or those wishing to brush up on their theory in preparation for entrance into a university music program.

Advanced history lessons are similarly available to students looking at preparation for Grade 9, 10 and ARCT History examinations, or for those wanting to increase their knowledge of the history behind the music they love.

Music composition lessons are available to students who wish to explore writing their own music. Various forms of composition will be explored, from writing short songs to writing longer works for ensembles. Timbre, tonality, and idiom will be explored through a variety of exercises.
